Be prepared…your preWedding Photoshoot

Yet more gorgeousness… Martin Phillips Studio | Martin Phillips Wedding Photography | | South Wales Wedding Photographer Cardiff | Wedding Photography Cardiff | Swansea Wedding Photographer West Wales | Best Wedding Photographers South Wales | Gower Wedding Photographers | Cotswolds Wedding Photographers | Oxwich Bay Wedding Photographer Gower An unusual, yet essential part of all our wedding packages is the complimentary preWedding photoshoot experience. This is FUN! Trust me. We usually meet at an outdoor location, a beach, an urban setting, a park, on a mountain, etc. We take some time getting to know one another whilst taking some relaxed, informal photos. This usually happens about a month before your wedding day and is an ideal time to chat about your final plans. It also puts everyone more at ease with the idea of being photographed – so the wedding day experience can be more enjoyable. Everyone loves their preWedding shoot and the photographs too! You will get the opportunity to choose your favourite image for us to print and mount, we then bring it along to your venue where you can ask your guests to sign it as a memento. Your favourites are included with your album package, but those of you on a digital package will have the opportunity to buy the collection.

The Barn at West Farm Wedding

What a fantastic day at this gorgeous The Barn at West Farm wedding Set on the cliffs at Ogmore by Sea, South Wales, The Barn at West Farm is an amazing venue – especially when the sun shines! Gwenno and Richard had just about the most perfect day, we loved being there!! Our local knowledge came in handy for a quick side trip to our favourite photo spot just down the coast. The wedding was also featured in the Spring issue of Your South Wales Wedding magazine. Our first stop was in Cowbridge for the Bride and Groom preparation pictures, the apartments above Penny Farthing Café are perfect for the girls. Town and Country (they have The Bear Hotel amongst others) also have other apartments, ideal for the boys. We headed off to Ogmore by Sea to catch the guests arriving and waited for the arrival of the bride – quite a long time! The wait was worth it, of course, Gwenno and the bridesmaids looked absolutely beautiful. A packed barn watched a delightful bi-lingual ceremony and everyone joined in to sing the beautiful Welsh folk song Ar Lan y Môr. The special thing about The Barn at West Farm is that the reception is held in a very pretty marquee, tucked at the rear of the building. It looks out across the sea to the hills of Exmoor on the North Somerset coast. Quite a spectacular location for a wedding! Hensol Castle Wedding Photographers

Hensol Castle Wedding Photographers This Summer as Hensol Castle Wedding Photographers we had the enormous pleasure of photographing several Hensol Castle Weddings. We will share some more of them over the next few weeks. The Hensol Castle wedding of Victoria and Oliver was a particularly splendid wedding with the ceremony set in Holy Cross Church in Cowbridge. A magnificent reception followed at Hensol Castle and was photographed by Hensol Castle Wedding Photographers, Martin and Jules Phillips. We are delighted to share our pictures of Victoria and Oliver’s wedding day. It all started at the family house, then moved on to Holy Cross church in Cowbridge for the main event. The rain was biblical for the guest arrivals, a flood in the road outside church tested the ingenuity of the ushers to the limit. Luckily the limit for ex Millfield boys is pretty high! Here’s Martin and our favourite videographer Richard Shelton of Aurora Films getting quite soggy, waiting for Victoria’s Arrival. …and a shot of Jules once the Sun had come out! Victoria and her Dad arrived, delayed only slightly as they tried to leave the house in the rain storm. Then, at last, the sun began to shine and gave us one of the best days of the Summer. Hensol Castle just gets better and better each year, it looks truly spectacular in the Summer sunshine. Each time we visit there have been more improvements to the building. There were huge swathes of very beautiful flowers everywhere, thanks to Hilary’s Flowers of Abergavenny. Thanks also to Liz Jones of Chair Covers and Bows for the amazing tables and chairs decorations. It all started with a rainstorm in Cowbridge and ended with a glorious sunset at Hensol Castle. It’s definitely one of our favourite wedding venues in... read more

Pencoed House Estate Wedding

A pre wedding photoshoot for a Pencoed House Estate wedding A little bit of photo fun before their upcoming Pencoed House Estate Wedding! Martin met Lisa and Adam a couple of evenings ago at one of our favourite locations. It’s a really nice way for us to get to know each other before the wedding day. It’s also a great opportunity for our lovely couples to learn to enjoy being in front of our (very non-intimidating) cameras. We include it with all our packages. That’s how strongly we feel that everyone should have this exciting and fun experience. It’s a guaranteed success – every... read more

Hensol Castle Wedding South Wales

Hensol Castle Wedding South Wales – a preWedding photoshoot for Victoria and Oliver We always like to meet up with each of our wedding clients a month or so before their wedding. It was a warm and sunny day in early April when we spent an afternoon at one of our favourite locations with Victoria and Oliver. It is always a very valuable time – to forge a closer relationship with our delightful couples. Soon we will spend a whole day photographing the happy couple and their family and friends, at Hensol Castle South Wales, in some of the most emotional and personal moments of their lives. We know that the time and effort we spend at this stage will produce beautiful and natural wedding photographs. It will also make the experience more relaxed and enjoyable for Victoria and Oliver. We photograph weddings at Hensol Castle several times a year and yet it never fails to inspire us with it’s beautiful landscaped gardens and lake. It’s exciting to know that we will soon be spending a whole day and evening photographing this beautiful pair in such amazing surroundings. Here are just a few of my personal favourites from the couple of hours we spent together.         Hensol Castle Wedding South... read more

Barn at West Farm Wedding

Barn at West Farm Wedding, South Wales Italy, South of France? No, a wedding at the Barn at West Farm, Ogmore by Sea on the Heritage Coast, South Wales! Honestly, looking out over the sea from this awesome location it was easy to imagine that we were at another destination wedding abroad! The day started with a continental feel as we caught up with the girls to do some preparation photos in Cowbridge. They were staying in the Old Wine House above the Quarter Penny Cafe which overlooked the courtyard, where brunch was being served. The interior of The Old Wine House was great for taking prep shots and the tone was set for a fabulous day ahead. Bride and bridesmaids arrived in a VW camper van at the lovely village Church of St. John the Baptist in Llanblethian where the vicar David Boult gave an amusing, sincere and memorable wedding Ceremony. I love it when brides provide confetti, it always makes for such lovely images at a Church wedding, after all this is what it’s all about, showering the happy couple with love. The Barn at West Farm is a glorious location and the marquee looked incredible!!! Rebecca and Daniel must have been planning and working on the details for months, what a beautiful scene to greet their family and friends and a treasure trove for us to photograph too. It had to be something special to tempt the guests away from enjoying the prosecco and ambience outside. One of the perks of our job is when we get to relax with a lovely meal by Town and Country... read more

Llanerch Vineyard Wedding

Llanerch Vineyard Wedding Photographer Vale of Glamorgan It’s always great to reconnect with a couple who we first met at a wedding fayre long ago and be with them to share their wedding day. Stephen and his groomsmen strolled along the country lane towards the historic St Mary’s Church in Marshfield, Cardiff, The church is also famous in more recent times for the filming of the Doctor Who christmas special “The End of Time” in 2009 where it was used for Donna’s wedding. After a hearty breakfast at Stephen and Susannah’s house, they were there to support Stephen on his big day. The girls arrived a little late, but hey, when you have a tiny baby to plan for as well as a wedding, anything can happen. Susannah looked incredibly happy and with her bridesmaids around her as she made her way into Church. After a very special Ceremony and lots of hugging and congratulations outside Church, the wedding party made their way to Llanerch Vineyard in the Vale of Glamorgan, where guests were greeted with delicious welcome drinks and canapés amongst the vines. This was a real family wedding with lots of lovely children, who clearly enjoyed the celebrations as much as the adults. Susannah and Stephen managed to tear themselves away from all the fun for a short walk around the lake with us in the early evening and enjoyed a little romantic time away from everyone (well almost everyone!) for some magical photographs amongst the wilder side of the Vineyard.       Llanerch Vineyard Wedding for Susannah and... read more
I don’t even know where to start. I have always known what a fabulous photographer Martin was, but it was just as important to have a photographer that I connected well with, who I felt comfortable sharing our special day with. After all, we could only invite 40 people, but having Martin and Julie as our photographers was like having an extra two family members. We got married in a very secluded setting in the Andalucian mountains. The day before the wedding Martin was exploring the area for perfect photo locations and taking test shots…

We just wanted to say thank you for the amazing job you did on our special day. We couldn’t have asked for a more lovely and helpful couple to capture the day. We are so glad we found you and are delighted with the wedding photos, and the pre-wedding shoot too. You put us at ease straight away and made something which normally makes us nervous, lots of fun! You really are a fantastic couple and are perfectly suited to working with couples about to get married! We loved hearing your stories and look forward to being as happy as you clearly are.

We both wanted to say thank you so much for our amazing pictures! We’re so happy to have such a lovely record of our day and of course of all the little details and things that we missed in the haze. The scenery looks absolutely stunning, and your pictures really do show a fabulous eye for moody skies, the beautiful hills and mountains of the Beacons! Thank you too for being so unobtrusive and working round a bride who was getting rather tense before the ceremony, as the minutes just seemed to tick by faster and faster…
